WEBP

Up to 30 files, 100 MB each, 200 MB per conversion. GD bundled (2.1.0 compatible)

PNG is lossless, so there is nothing to configure — no quality setting would mean anything here. Expect the PNG to be larger than the WebP, often several times larger: that is the cost of the older format, not a fault in the conversion.
Animated WebP files cannot be converted. PHP's image library reads only a single frame, so rather than quietly throwing the animation away the tool refuses the file.
GD bundled (2.1.0 compatible). Runs in PHP with no external tools, so nothing needs installing. Lossless conversions keep every pixel exactly.

    Questions

Why would I want PNG instead of WebP?

Compatibility with software rather than browsers. Older versions of Photoshop, Office, many print workflows and a lot of desktop and embedded software still cannot open WebP, while PNG works everywhere.

    Does converting lose any quality?

The conversion itself is lossless — the PNG holds exactly the pixels the WebP decoded to. But if the WebP was saved lossily, that earlier loss is already baked into those pixels and cannot be recovered.

Why is the PNG so much bigger?

PNG uses a much older, weaker compressor and has no lossy mode at all. A lossy WebP converted to PNG is commonly five to ten times larger. Nothing is wrong; the sizes simply are not comparable.

    Is transparency kept?

Yes, exactly — both formats have a full alpha channel.
